PEACE CORPS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY ANNOUNCEMENT
Opening Date: September 20, 2007
Closing Date: October 12, 2007
TARGET AUDIENCE
Applicants must be full-time Peace Corps employees who have completed their 6-month probationary period, in their first tour, have at least 18 months left on their second tour, or on an unlimited appointment by the closing date of this announcement. This program will include direct hire Peace Corps employees from the National Capital Region; employees from regional offices and Posts may be included at a later time.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This Academy is designed to develop future leaders and plan for executive succession in the coming years. This twelve-month program is designed to assist PC in ensuring that Peace Corps has a source of well-prepared managers who can serve as a major resource for replenishing positions throughout the organization when current top-level leaders move to new careers or retire. Although there is no guarantee that a specific Alumni from the program will be selected for a management position, the Alumni will have developed skills which enhance his/her credentials in the context of Peace Corps.
Program participants will be expected to participate in a coach-led career planning process, followed by special work assignments that will focus on identified leadership competencies. The progress of the candidates will be monitored throughout the program. Near the end of the twelve-month timeframe, the Council will review the participant’s accomplishments and hold a follow-up interview. At the conclusion of the experience, participants will take part in a focus group process to discuss ways to improve the program for future candidates and for expanding the Academy.
PROGRAM COMPLETION
Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive a plaque: Peace Corps Certificate of Leadership Excellence signed by the Peace Corps Director and will become a member of the Peace Corps Leader Development Academy Alumni Program.
